I would like to introduce you all to Joyce Stanley! She is a Certified Life Coach. Recently, I received the opportunity to interview her! Check it out below!
Where are you from?
I am originally from Wiesbaden, Germany. I lived there for approximately 7–8 years and then moved here to Georgia. I grew up in Summerville and Rome, Georgia.
What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
Honestly, I became inspired during the pandemic. After sitting and working from home for all those months, I finally decided that it was time to start working on building my business and so that’s what I did. I started my business on July 14, 2020. Wow! My 3 year anniversary is in another week. Time sure does fly!
Tell us about the work that you do, and what’s your why?
I am a Certified Life Coach specializing in Career Empowerment, Confidence Building, and Life-Balance Mastery. The consultant services that I offer are Resume Writing, Interview Preparation, and other career-related areas. I cater to entrepreneurs as well with my Virtual Assistant Services. My services range from administrative work to bookkeeping, marketing, and customer service tasks.
Lastly, I am a Commissioned Notary in the State of Georgia. My why… With years of experience in the industry, I started my business because I am passionate about helping other individuals achieve their personal and professional goals. There was a time when I needed guidance and support. I know how rough it can be when you lack the resources and tools or when you don’t have access to people who are experienced. People who are knowledgeable, and don’t mind lending you a hand to help get you on your feet and set the path that’s going to lead you to success. I was fortunate enough to have that someone. Now, I want to be that someone for others. I firmly believe that everyone has the potential to achieve their dreams and lead a fulfilling life.
What challenges have you been met with while maneuvering entrepreneurship, and how did you overcome?
Whew! Where do I start? No, I kid, I kid, but seriously, what entrepreneur do you know that hasn’t faced challenges? When I look back at where I started and my now, I’ve come a long way. I’ll say this: I’m not fully where I want to be, but I’m happy. I have more clients now than I did 1-2 years ago. I guess for me, my biggest challenge would be having to utilize my personal funds to operate my business because, of course, when you’re starting out, for the first few years that’s what you have to do. Thank God for all the grants that are available to entrepreneurs now. Especially in the melanated community. You asked, “How did I overcome the challenges?” By putting my best foot forward and not giving up. At the end of the day, there will always be challenges and obstacles that we face. The key is to handle it with grace.
In those moments when it gets hard, how do you manage to keep going?
I pray. Sure, I get frustrated and bent out of shape when I feel like things aren’t going as planned or as I expect, but alongside prayer, what has kept me going is my dedication, my passion, and my purpose. That’s it, Queen.
When it comes to women, our women’s community, what would you like to see more of?
I’d really like to see more of us; women, brainstorming, collaborating, and working together. Now, don’t get me wrong, women are starting to do more of this. However, we still have a tendency to feel inferior to the woman beside us who may have a little more. It’s time for women to stop comparing and competing & do more applauding and congratulating. Enjoy the journey you’re on because no one knows what it took for that other woman to get to where she is. When it’s your time, it’s your time. Trust the process and go with the flow.
