Welcome, Joyce, and how are you doing?

I’m wonderful! Thank you for having me!

You are an amazing actress! It’s the range for us!! I understand that your career in the entertainment industry started off in modeling which is so awesome!! Tell us how you landed in the world of acting, and what did you see in the mirror early on in your career, looking back at you, that made you know and solidified that this was your calling and something that you were great at?

I got my start in acting on an independent film called ā€œLife 101 Angel’s Secretā€ while I was in high school. There was an open call that required a monologue of the talent’s choosing. I remember auditioning in a theater, and the monologue brought me to tears. It resonated with the director and writer, and I booked the lead. I realized at that moment that my emotional depth and empathy were essential qualities that would lead to my ability to connect to characters and commit to storytelling.

Let’s talk about ā€œThe Hunting Wives,ā€ which is a great series!!! And you portrayed the role of ā€œMonaeā€ so brilliantly well!!! What were your initial thoughts when you first learned what this show would entail?

I was beyond excited about this series. I knew instantly that this series would push the envelope and that it would make waves.

Did you improvise that iconic line that you delivered, ā€œWe don’t work, we wife,ā€ or was that already in the script?

That line was scripted brilliantly and I was honored to bring it to life lol!

What was your process like bringing ā€œMonaeā€ to life?

Monae was a pleasure to bring to life.  She is so confident and unbothered, the opposite of what most women experience day-to-day; myself included.  It was refreshing to play a character who makes no apologies for being fabulous while being insistent on having a good time!

What was your favorite scene to film in ā€œThe Hunting Wives,ā€ and why?

My favorite scene was probably the NDA signing scene. In addition to our glam team killing the brunch looks, it was a fun scene that depicted the deeper politics of the friend group. This scene was directed by the amazing Cheryl Dunye and she was just a true pleasure to work with!

I am a huge fan of films and series, so I’m always intrigued by the talent actors possess. I also have to tell you that your portrayal of Detective Brittany Jones in ā€œCheckmateā€ was just as brilliant!!! Out of all the roles you have portrayed thus far, what role has been the most challenging?Ā

My role as Detective Brittany Jones in ā€œCheckmateā€ was my most demanding role to date. It was very physical and required gun play, running and fighting.  It was definitely a pleasure to challenge myself so it is also one of my favorite roles thus far!

During this current chapter in your journey in acting. What is something new that you have learned about yourself as an actor that you will carry with you and use to continue elevating in the entertainment industry?

I’ve realized my tenacity as an actor. I’ve been in this business for 20 years and I have had to give myself flowers for not quitting. I’ve had to give myself respect for never giving up when nothing seemed to be happening. I will continue to love on myself and honor the battles I’ve won, that only I know about.

I understand that you are a twin, The Glenn Twins, two talented and gorgeous Queens! How cool!! What is life and that experience been like for you as a twin?

Being a twin is one of the biggest blessings in my life. Having a best friend and teammate to tackle life with is surreal. We share the same goals and have always been each other’s biggest supporters. This business can get lonely and superficial, but having one another has allowed us to avoid some of the disadvantages in this business.

When you’re not busy working, how are you practicing self-care?

I’m definitely a gym rat lol. I love cardio, weights and relaxing in the sauna. I love routine massages, especially after an intense workout session. I love regular facials and mani pedis. I am a foodie so I love fine dining. Most importantly, I love family time. I look forward to Sunday dinners at my mom’s house for a weekly reset.

Thank you so much, Joyce!
