It’s Candles & Ministry for Jasmin!

I would like to introduce you all to Jasmin Mitchell! She is the owner of Delighted Candles & Co., where she intertwines candles with ministry. She is a woman of God and is dedicated to being of service to others. She is a teacher, caregiver, and nurturer of vulnerable children and women. Jasmin has explored numerous fields, ranging from healthcare and corrections to education. The hat that she wears most boldly, courageously, and proudly is that of a Disciple. I received the opportunity to interview her! Check it out below!

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan.

What sparked your interest in entrepreneurship?

At first, it was more-so for the money. Also, knowing that I could create something of my own that people could potentially love. Now, it’s to glorify God and be a steward of His kingdom. When God enlarges my territory, I will sow into my community more with essential needs and monetary contributions to children and families.

Tell us about your business, Delighted Candles & Co., and what it entails. What led you to this specific area of business?

Delighted Candles & Co. is a luxury candle line handcrafted for women who desire to delight themselves in the Lord. Which was something I had to do. This journey with God has become a major turning point in my life mentally, spiritually, physically, and emotionally. When the pandemic arose in 2020, I was laid off of work. While spending a lot of time at home, I wanted to learn a new hobby or skill. I found myself lighting candles a lot more, so making my own started weighing heavily on me. I started brainstorming, bought my first candle kit, and Delighted by Jasmin was the name at first. However, in August 2020, I had an abortion at 6 weeks pregnant. I was crushed.

All the wounds of my heart, trauma, sins, and mistakes came crashing down on me at once. This became a season of tremendous grief. This is where God met me, in a pool of mess. A few months later, I looked up “delight” in the Bible app, and the Lord told me clear as day in Psalms 37:4 (NLT) “Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.” The biggest desire of my heart was to be “set free” in Christ so that I could grow into the Woman of God that He has called me to be. And as I started experiencing His love, grace, and mercy, I wanted it for every other woman too. Delighted Candles & Co. was proclaimed.

I understand that for you it’s not just about the candles that you offer. How do you intertwine candles with ministry?

I believe this to be a whole sermon lol. I absolutely love candles for their ability to create ambiance, aesthetics, pleasant scents, relaxation, symbolism, and their versatility as gifts. Although candles have no power, no strength, and no supernatural abilities, they serve as a gift of peace for many in the natural realm. Candles are comforting, and they illuminate a soft glow in a dark room. The light and fragrance improve our moods and give us an ambiance we enjoy. We associate them with warmth, peace, and relaxation. God can make you feel the same way and far beyond that if you just get to know Him, all that He is, and what He is endlessly capable of. You will feel His warmth. He is Jehovah Shalom. He will give you peace that surpasses your understanding. He is the light of this world. He gives us a peace that no one else can, spiritually. God called me into a deeper understanding of peace and how to use my candle line to glorify His name by spreading the gospel.

Since you’ve been on your entrepreneurial journey, what has your experience been like thus far?

It’s been filled with a few challenges, yet it’s also filled me with gratitude. The challenges have been with marketing my brand and making consistent content, and I’m sort of an introvert. However, I definitely enjoy vendor events! I’ve had some great experiences as a vendor. I’m looking forward to attending more events and being able to interact and fellowship with people.

Through your business, you are helping others. While being of service to others and pouring into others, how are you pouring into yourself so that you can maintain your wellbeing?

I love buying myself flowers, working out (gym/pilates), taking myself out to eat, going to church, being in solitude, putting my phone on do not disturb, exploring new parks, prayer picnics, making candles, spa treatments, committing to better health, prioritizing sleep, traveling, etc. Those are some of the ways I pour into myself. I enjoy the little things.

Before you go, drop a gem or some great advice for our readers out there. Feel free to say whatever compels you. I like to call this section UnpackingHer Thoughts. Let them know, Queen!

To delight yourself in the Lord doesn’t mean “go to church every Sunday, so you can get whatever you want.” I am not saying God won’t bless us with a brand new BMW lol. It surely won’t be for us to stunt on others or to forget about who He is. It is not meant to fuel our fleshly desires or anything that will separate us from Him. Many people delight in the temporary things of this world: wealth, status, material possessions, etc. These things become idols on a daily basis. It’s how many define their sense of worth. That’s why they always want more, because they think more is better. Their hearts are never truly satisfied. A person can have everything they want yet still carry brokenness, still feel empty, etc. I encourage you not to be blinded by what you see on social media. Everybody is not seeking the will of God for their lives. Some are truly going with their own flow, with a desire for their own will.

When we take delight in the Lord, our hearts truly find peace and fulfillment in Him. Worries turn into faith, anxiety turns into hope, and discouragement turns into contentment (not settling but trusting that God will move in our lives). We are eager to build and have the right relationship with Him. We put Him above any person, place, or thing and acknowledge Him in our thoughts and actions. We desire righteousness and His will for our lives. And He will give us the righteous desires of our hearts according to His will.

It’s been said that the person who delights in the Lord values the giver more highly than His gifts! That stuck with me.

Be encouraged.

Thank you so much, Jasmin!
