I would like to introduce you all to an amazing podcast based in the DMV! Kimbella Jackson is the host! Recently, I received the opportunity to interview her! Check it out below!
Tell us the name of your podcast, how you came up with the name, and what your show is about.
The name of my podcast is Her Power Over Voice (HPOV). My podcast is all about women’s empowerment and the power we hold. We wanted the name to embody women’s essence and their power, and of course, as a podcast, the power is through her voice. HPOV is a platform designed to open mindsets, promote positivity, and push individuals to be the best versions of themselves while being informative and entertaining!
What’s the inspiration behind why you wanted to start a podcast?
I started my podcast at a time when there was so much controversy going on in the media (the Black Lives Matter movement, women’s rights being up for bargaining again, and police brutality obstacles). I was inspired to provide a platform to discuss these issues from a woman’s POV and talk about issues within the women’s community (equal pay, colorism, women in leadership, friendships, and unfair work environments). Women have come a long way, and we deserve to be celebrated and encouraged every day to pursue our dreams and aspirations.
What do you enjoy most about podcasting, and what are some challenges?
I really enjoy connecting with people on the platform. I enjoy making people think about certain issues and feel good about communicating those issues and discussing topics that are uncomfortable. My platform is designed to encourage others to speak up and have a voice, especially women. Some challenges that are natural are that some people may not agree with you, and that’s okay; this is what a podcast is for: holding discussion.
When it comes to looking towards the future and catapulting forward, what do you hope to accomplish in the world of podcasting?
Going forward, my goal is to touch as many people as possible in a positive way. Continue to encourage others to be the best versions of themselves and for women to feel connected and united.

Before you leave, can you drop a gem for someone who may be interested in starting their own show?
If you are interested in starting your own podcast, do the research, follow your heart, and take that leap. Don’t overthink the challenges you think are there. It is your platform, and you control the direction it goes. Be authentic and true to yourself.
Thank you so much Kimbella!
