Where are you from?
Detroit, Michigan

What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

It was my desire to be a change agent. My heart is with helping people succeed through clear direction and continuous support.

Tell us about the work that you do, and what’s your why?

I own a media company (Detroit CEO Media) that is the parent company to two other brands. I do this work because I found it important to tell our own stories and own our own narratives, so I created a space for entrepreneurs and creatives of color to do just that.

What challenges have you been met with while maneuvering entrepreneurship, and how did you overcome?

I’ve encountered the challenges of literally having no idea what I was doing when I first got started and not having any real guidance from people that I thought would be happy to lend a hand. With that, I learned how to design my own websites and graphics with no formal training; just a lot of late nights and early mornings, all while working my 9-5, which I still have. What I learned was that those challenges were actually blessings in disguise because they taught me that I can absolutely do anything that I dedicate myself to doing.

In those moments when it gets hard, how do you manage to keep going?

I remember my why, which is building a legacy for my children and my eventual grandchildren. Doing so shows them that, they too, can take control of their destiny. Whether they actually choose that remains to be seen, but I’ve done the work by setting an example of persistence and determination.

When it comes to women and our women’s community, what would you like to see more of?

I’d like to see more collaborations. It’s important to remember that your light does not diminish another woman’s light, and there is enough for everyone to win. In my opinion, there is no such thing as an oversaturated market. Your sauce may or may not have the same ingredients as mine, but our presentations will always be different.
